Definitely check multiple banks when seeking a home loan, no matter what. That's how I found Veterans United. They beat my bank by almost a full percentage point for the interest rate and 3/4 of a percentage on the APR (to be clear, I never shared my banks interest rate with them). I was sceptical at first because I usually do all of my banking through the same bank and I don't like change. I took the recommendation of my agent to try working with her friend who worked at VU. I did this after I felt my banks rate was a little high considering my credit score. I would have stuck with my bank over convenience, but I couldn't ignore the rate. If you decide to go through Veterans United, I would recommend trying to get Amanda Dusenberry to run you through the process or who ever she recommends. She obviously takes a lot of pride in her job. Oh ya, because of my credit score, I recieved credit towards my closing. I didn't pay closing costs and the remaining credit went toward the principal of my loan. Getting it apparently depends on if you have great credit and how much you plan to borrow. It was also something I didn't know even existed, but solidified my choice for which bank handled my VA loan.
